Sasquatch Chalet

HIGHLINE CONSTRUCTION

When the vision includes a sasquatch etched on the front entry sidelite, you know it’s going to be good. Glacier, WA isn’t typically a location where we take-on residential remodels or custom home builds, but this cabin remodel was bound to be special opportunity our design-build team couldn’t turn down.

The owners were referred to us by their parents, whom we had built a weekend rambler for in Bellingham, WA. We already knew the family was lovely, and we were excited to help them retain some of the original charm of this cabin while modernizing the space and rearranging the layout to comfortably host guests.

The woodsy arched A-frame was an architectural element that begged to be kept, and, with it, the practical and cute firewood pass-through cabinet. The loft was opened up by raising the second floor, removing part of it, and adding in a slick custom handrail by Heatwave Design out of Bellingham, WA. [Exterior rails also by Heatwave.]

The outdoors was brought in with thoughtful interior selections throughout the home. New cypress tongue and groove adorns the interior of the arched walls and ceilings, a way-too-cute ski scene is etched on the entry sidelite, and a custom slab table and branching lights above enchant the dining area. The tile and wallpaper selections don’t miss a beat – from tile patterns reminiscent of snowflakes, boards, and birch trees to retro skiers covering the walls of the powder room.

A rec room and ski service area fills what was once a garage, with a completely remodeled space above it that serves as a kingdom for kids or as a separate family suite for guests. Custom bunks were designed locally by TiltShift Design Studio in Bellingham, WA, who was also brought in for the primary suite bedframe and headboard with floating nightstands and the fireplace mantle.

This remodel was about more than form and finishes; significant mechanical, plumbing, and electrical changes and updates were needed. Respectively, Andgar Home Comfort, Favinger Plumbing, and North Wave Electric worked their magic to unify these systems throughout the house.

A lot of love was put into getting this cabin just right. Without a doubt, mountains of love will continue to fill its walls for generations to come.
