Weekend Rambler

We designed this home to complement the craftsman style of the neighborhood while also creating a modern and welcoming space within, a process we very much enjoyed. Slab Design thoughtfully planned this three-bedroom home to evoke the architectural style of the surrounding homes and integrate into the neighborhood. Traditional craftsman-style elements are found throughout the exterior and interior of the home.

A mix of shingles and colonial siding is accentuated by natural cedar framing at the entryway. Large eaves protect the sides of the house while custom steel overhangs at the windows provide relief from the elements and passive cooling during the summer. Custom steel railings at the stairs give the craftsman-style house a contemporary feel.

Wide plank white oak flooring throughout the house evokes traditional craftsman design while the open floor plan and ample natural light brighten the space. The large kitchen was designed for cooking large meals and hosting family gatherings. Quarter sawn white oak cabinets with shaker style doors and cup pulls complete the traditional aesthetic. Pendants from Tech Lighting and sleek appliances keep the kitchen from feeling too traditional. A built-in desk and the end of the kitchen provides a clever use of space and adds functionality to the room.

The trifold door to the patio allows for the indoor and outdoor living spaces to become a refreshing indoor-outdoor area during the warmer months. Custom cherry furniture from a local maker provides an elegant finishing touch to the dining room.

The vanity in the bathroom and powder bath were custom designed for the narrow spaces. The cabinets set back on either side of the sink provide ample storage while not encroaching on the floor space.

The smaller footprint of the home allows for beautiful landscaping and outdoor living areas. A flagstone path meanders through to an additional detached garage. The detached garage includes a bathroom and a quiet office space.
