Construction work doesn’t have a reputation of being a touchy-feely or joyful occupation, but we can tell you: it definitely is. The Swinomish Playground Remodel project was filled with all the feels from beginning to end.
It started with a lot of excavation work, and like Levi, our civil production manager, says, “[We] get to be big kid[s] playing in a giant sandbox with real Tonka trucks.”
Eventually, after building a covered learning area and restrooms; installing sheds, play equipment, and playhouses; and landscaping the space, we were able to give an amazing group of kids the quality playground they deserve.
We joined the kids and teachers for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate their new space. The eldest in the group took her responsibility with the giant scissors very seriously and executed her role with precision, safety, and pride – all the marks of a great construction professional. The ceremonial snip was followed by lots of cheering, high fives, and some serious play.
For years, we’ve built homes with a level of quality that will ensure they last – homes where not only memories made in them span generations, but where the physical space can be passed along too. As we take on more and more commercial construction, getting to do projects for kids gives us an entirely new sense of legacy.
Building for our youngest generation gives us a chance to create spaces that lay an extremely hopeful foundation. This playground will be a space where kids exercise creativity, build resilience, form social-emotional intelligence, gain kinesthetic knowledge, and much more. We can’t take credit for any of that, but we are exceptionally grateful to be part of it in a small way – a way that makes us better people too.
Thank you, Swinomish Tribe, for the sincere honor of building for you.
