A Natural Escape in the Heart of Ferndale, WA

Several of our employees call Ferndale, WA home. When the Tennant Lake Boardwalk Repairs in Ferndale went up for bid, we knew it would be an opportunity to contribute to a beloved park for Whatcom County locals while also giving our employees a chance to problem solve in a tricky wetland environment. We never shy away from a rewarding challenge.

Working with Washington State Funds

Funding and project oversight was made possible through the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. We had worked with them before and knew the collaboration would be successful and appreciated the investment they were making in our local community through this construction project.

Construction Complexity

Because we were working in a marsh, the build site was not accessible with heavy equipment. Our all-star team manually hauled materials and tools through the marsh and worked on a series of planks and floats to pile drive 15+ feet into the underwater soil.

Intentional Design

Dangerous wooden platforms that were rotting and slippery most months of the year were replaced with durable and slip-resistant fiberglass grates. The new grates will allow water to pass through during flooding without causing damage.

Future Construction

Part of the original boardwalk remains and was not included in the scope of this repair. We hope funding will be available in the near future for a Phase 2 replacement project so the entire structure can offer enjoyment to Whatcom County nature enthusiasts for decades to come.
