We love to partner with regional designers and architects, and were excited for the opportunity to work with Stillwater Dwellings in the construction of this custom lake house. Headquartered in Seattle, WA, Stillwater Dwellings creates high-end, modern, prefabricated homes. Stillwater utilizes a panelized building system to control costs, increasing predictability in the building process and reducing waste up to 50%. Working with Stillwater and Highline Interiors, the client finalized their floor plan, as well as their interior and exterior finishes. For this home, the clients incorporated custom features such as the exterior gas fireplace clad with concrete tiles and built-in bunk beds.
The home is oriented on the lot to highlight the view of the lake, with a triple-panel sliding door at the corner of the living room, allowing the indoor space to meld into the outdoor deck space in the summertime.
The interior of the home evokes the surroundings with many natural finishes: custom stone veneer at the fireplace, oak flooring, and wood look tile at the bathrooms. These neutrals are accentuated by the clean, bright lines of the large windows, simple kitchen cabinets, and the modern design of the built-in bunk beds. Pops of color are spread throughout with vibrant blue lower cabinets at the kitchen providing a cheerful atmosphere for cooking and entertaining. The two integrated beverage coolers add the finishing touches to a well appointed kitchen.
The home also features durability in finishes and design with porcelain floors on the main level of the house, allowing ease of cleaning while using the indoor/outdoor living spaces. The herringbone tile backsplash in the kitchen extends fully to the bottom of the cabinets, ensuring not only an eye-catching design aesthetic but also ease of cleaning and maintenance.
Moving upstairs, the indoor/outdoor theme is continued with custom Concreate tile risers on the stairs, mirroring the tile surround at the outdoor fireplace. The bathrooms continue the natural color scheme with a beautiful herringbone wood look tile at the shower and natural color pebble floors. Both bathrooms feature space saving glass walls in lieu of full shower doors. Radiant heat in the floors ensures the occupants will be comfortable throughout the year.
For the custom bunk room, we designed four built-in bunk beds with hidden under-bed storage under each unit. Each built-in bunk includes wooden stairs, individual reading lights, and built-in USB ports.
Lastly, to take advantage of a large area below the deck, Highline created a secure lakeside storage unit — perfect for keeping kayaks and SUPs when not in use.
Best of all? Several years later, and the homeowners are still happy.
