After living in something like a dozen different houses over the course of their marriage, our clients came to us with the dream of turning a home they’d purchased in Blaine into their forever home – the perfect custom home to return to after long walks on the beach. The project was divided into three phases: an addition and exterior remodel, a lower-level remodel, and a main floor remodel.

Our clients bought the home for its location – great views of the water and a short walk to the beach. We can’t argue any of that! The home was very clearly built in the early 2000’s and had become somewhat dated. One of the goals of the project was to give the home a more timeless feel. This was achieved through the use of many high-quality natural materials, like wood and stone, that evoke a sense of warmth and comfort.

In addition to that, our clients needed more usability – a more spacious shower, a proper library for their impressive collection of books, a convenient spot to rinse dog paws, a dedicated work-from-home office separate from the existing home office. Discovering the unique set of needs each client has is part of what makes being design-build so much fun. We get to know our clients during the design process, digging into what’s important to them and working together to find solutions that best match their needs. Then, in the build process, we get to see they joy on their faces as their on-paper dreams come to life.

Because this project was done in three phases, our journey with these clients was longer than is typical, but what lovely clients they were to have. It was hard to say goodbye at the end, but we are so happy we were able to help them create their forever home.
