There’s a lot of variety in design-build parameters when it comes to commercial remodels. Though simple in scope, this commercial renovation project for the Spark Museum of Radio Electricity allowed us a unique opportunity to be a small part of this beloved institution’s story. Situated in the heart of downtown Bellingham, Washington, Spark Museum of Radio and Electricity encourages visitors of all ages to embrace the wonder and mystery of electricity.
When we met to look at the site, the retired radio broadcast room was being used for storage. Museum staff and board members saw the potential to give the room a new chapter and breathe life into it once again. We shared their enthusiasm and were honored to be selected to turn the space into a home for rotating exhibits.
After some light design work, we were onto construction. To honor the building’s history, the original floors and the ceiling joists were refurbished. Original brick was exposed, adding charm and character. A cased opening was added to create flow, while new drywall and trim polished it all off.
We hope you’ll visit Spark to experience the magic of this Bellingham, WA gem yourself. If you are a business owner or non-profit leader looking to upgrade your commercial space for the betterment of our community, we’d be happy to hear from you. We’re always interested in construction projects with widespread impact in Whatcom County or Skagit County.
